State Bank Of India furnished Electoral Bond Data within Deadline to ECI
State Bank of India (SBI) has, as instructed, provided all pertinent information regarding electoral bonds to the Election Commission of India, in accordance with a directive from the Honorable Supreme Court of India.
A five-member Constitution bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud instructed SBI to furnish the requisite data by the close of business hours on Tuesday, March 12. The court underscored that failure to meet this deadline could result in proceedings against “willful disobedience.” The apex court also rejected the plea from SBI to extend the deadline of submission of the data to ECI.
This development follows a significant ruling on February 15, where the Supreme Court invalidated the government’s electoral bonds scheme, citing it as unconstitutional. The court mandated the disclosure of donors, their contributions, and recipients by March 13.
Electoral bond is a legalization of corrupt practices under the veil.
