India’s KALI 5000 Weapon. Operation White Wash. Myth or Fact?
The Indian government has consistently avoided providing clear responses to inquiries regarding KALI (Kilo Ampere Linear Injector), reportedly being developed by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) and BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Center). In 2015, the then defence minister of India, Shri Manohar Parikar, declined to disclose any details about the project during a session in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of the Indian Parliament).
“The desired information is sensitive in nature and its disclosure is not in the interest of national security,” Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said in a written reply to Lok Sabha on 18.12.2015.
However, the widely accepted opinion holds that India has been working on the KALI Project and other directed energy weapons technologies, which might be turned into lethal weapons or used for civilian study. Phase I of the road-map reportedly states that the Indian Army and Air Force need at least twenty “tactical high-energy laser systems” with a range of 6–8 km that can destroy “small aerial targets” and electronic warfare systems. Phase II calls for the development of laser systems with a 20-kilometer range in order to target “soft-skinned” forces and vehicles from the air and on land.
Still, India’s DEW technological prowess is in its infancy and cannot yet be compared to US, Russia and China.
Although there isn’t enough open source data to determine these weapons’ effectiveness, it’s likely that they will advance throughout the next ten years.
Science Competition Vision, a scientific magazine, stated in October 1999 that India was prepared to test KALI 5000, a prospective beam weapon that might destroy enemy missiles and aircraft by damaging their computer chips and electronic systems.
The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) are working together to develop the KALI (Kilo Ampere Linear Injector), a linear electron accelerator. It is said that India’s most top-secret weapon is this KALI weapon. The weapon is said to be able to fire strong electromagnetic energy pulses, which have the ability to destroy or disable electronic systems of enemy aircraft & missiles or drones, making them an important tool in contemporary warfare tactics.
The Science of the weapon is legitimate & is not an impossible conversion to reality. It is particle acceleration & beam physics. Various versions of the KALI asset are known as KALI 80, KALI 200, KALI 1000, KALI 5000 and the KALI 10000.
Myth or Fact?
It’s not a Myth. India is developing KALI 5000 or has tested it already. The results are said to be effective and devastating for the targets, but they have drawbacks that make reloading it on the battlefield a nightmare. It uses a massive 12000 litre cooling tank in addition to excessive power consumption. It also weighs between 12 and 25 tons. In a combat zone, this makes the weapon very challenging to handle and reload. How India might modify the asset to make it appropriate for combat readiness is a matter of great secrecy. However, the weapon is lethal and could be an effective addition to the Indian arsenal.
Operation White Wash: Did it happen?
Disputable speculations in Pakistan Media & a few YouTube bloggers are there on public domain, on use of KALI Framework by Indian Foreign Intelligence Agency R&AW, to trigger a dangerous avalanche in 2012 causing noteworthy casualty of Pakistan Armed force Unit in Siachen. In any case, there’s no affirmed & verified report to set up this as a cause of the disaster.
Be that as it may, unconfirmed reports portray a fastidious mission by R&AW (Research and Analysis Wing), of installing a KALI Beam Gun in a IL-76 Cargo Aircraft within the secret Charbatia airbase in Cuttack, Odisha and transporting it to Sarsawa Air base in Uttar Pradesh. On a chosen day, the IL-76 took off & flew towards targeted test region in Siachen with an escort of Mirrage & Sukhoi Warrior planes. These fighter jets & the IL-76 were vectored by another AWAC. The group did shoot the test zone with KALI Gun and triggered the dangerous avalanche. The Pakistan Armed force had no time to respond to such a intense snow slide & had to bear critical casualties.
The Operation White wash are forever based on unconfirmed reports, probably because R&AW Operations is only “Need to know basis”.
Does United States have Such a Weapon?
The United States Navy currently operates the AN/SEQ-3 Weapon system aboard the USS Ponce, which utilises laser technology rather than particle beams. There are discussions within the United States about the potential development of particle beam weapons, but there is no immediate plan for their integration into military operations. Publicly, the U.S. has made it clear that the conversion of this technology into a usable weapon is not a priority in the foreseeable future. According to DefenseOne, Mike Griffin, the U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, recently stated to defense reporters that work on neutral particle beams has been indefinitely deferred due to its lack of near-term feasibility. However, he stressed that research into lasers and microwave weapons for ground, air, and space applications is still ongoing within the Pentagon.
