Former U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber Found Dead at Home in Virginia
Jessica D. Aber, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found dead at her home on Saturday, authorities confirmed. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear as law enforcement officials continue their investigation.
Jessica D. Aber, 42, had been a prominent figure in the legal community, known for her dedication to public service and her efforts in prosecuting major criminal cases, including those related to fraud, national security, and public corruption. At 9:18 a.m., officers from the Alexandria Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at a residence. Upon reaching the location, they found Aber had passed away. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether Jessica D. Aber lived at the residence or who made the emergency call.

Aber was appointed as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in October 2021 by President Joe Biden and was confirmed by the Senate. In her role, she oversaw numerous high-profile cases, including those involving cybersecurity threats, human trafficking, and corporate fraud. She was known for her sharp legal mind, unwavering commitment to justice, and dedication to protecting vulnerable communities.
Before serving as U.S. Attorney, Jessica D. Aber worked in various capacities within the Department of Justice, including as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Her career was marked by a strong focus on tackling organized crime, financial fraud, and national security issues. She graduated from the University of Richmond and obtained her law degree from William & Mary Law School in 2006.

While serving as U.S. Attorney in Virginia, Aber oversaw prosecutions of drug trafficking organizations, secured indictments against Russian military personnel for alleged war crimes involving the torture of a U.S. citizen during the war in Ukraine, and pursued charges against a Virginia tech company accused of illegally supplying U.S. technology to Russia.
She resigned as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in January of this year after the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
