Vice President Kamala Harris and Former President Donald Trump engaged in an intense Presidential debate on Tuesday night at National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. In this exclusive debate, the world saw both the leaders using the opportunity to communicate directly with the American people. The platform unfolded a plethora of topics like Economy, Immigration, Abortion rights, Ukraine and a lot more.

The US General Election is in November 2024 and the race to the election is in top gear. This Presidential debate was not at all like the previous debate, which was probably the mainstay behind Joe Biden’s termination of candidature as re-election to the white house.

The debate started with a handshake initiated by Kamala Harris. She introduced herself with her name and said, “Let’s have a good debate”.

Donald Trump responded by saying “Nice to see you, Have Fun!”

The debate saw Harris dominating the stage in many instances, putting Donald Trump in defensive mode at times.

Economy:

Both Kamal Harris and Donald Trump had strong & contrasting views on economy during the Presidential debate in Philadelphia.

Harris pushed forward her “Opportunity Economy” concept, with which she aims to uplift the middle class & working population. She disclosed her plans on facilitating affordable housing & proposed an extension of child tax credit to USD 6000. She criticized Trump’s economic policies, tariff decisions that she believes will impact middle class harshly. During the debate she tried to puncture the exaggeration of Trumps’s “I had no inflation” statements.

Donald Trump defended his tariff strategies and said his tariff decisions have the power to protect American Industries & American People. He termed Biden-Harris governance as the worst period for America he had ever seen and termed Harris as a Marxist. He accused her to be copying few of his economic policies. Donald Trump supported a 10%-20% on all the imports into America from abroad and a 60% tariff on Chinese products. He is of the opinion that, this will not affect the Americans, but the exporting countries.

Kamala Harris deplored the state-level abortion bans & tried to explain the difficulties of women getting emergency health care due to restrictive laws. She declared to have plans to proudly sign a bill by reinstating the protections of Roe vs Wade if Congress clears it. She criticized Trump for his role in the Dobbs vs Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling which overturned Roe vs Wade.

Donald Trump praised the Supreme Court for overturning the Roe Vs Wade, by saying that most of the legal experts wanted it to be overturned. He denied of any plan to sign a federal ban on abortion, stating that congress will not pass it and already he has got what everyone wanted.

Democrats’ position on abortion is so extreme that they support execution after birth. I’m not signing a ban, and there’s no reason to sign a ban because we’ve gotten what everybody wanted. I won’t have to”

During the Presidential debate, Donald Trump heavily attacked the Biden-Harris administration on account of failure in securing the borders leading to high illegal migrant crossings. He repeated his plans on deporting the 11 million illegal migrants back to their countries, which he feels has not been addressed by current administration at all.

However, Kamala Harris defended the immigration policies in place & said there is a decline in migrant crossings. She termed Trump’s plans as divisive & not constructive. She blamed Trump for killing a border security bill by influencing congress members and said Trump believes on running on a problem instead of resolving it.

Ukraine & Russia

Trump avoided directly commenting on whether he wants Ukraine to win the war against Russia. He criticized Biden-Harris administration of prolonging the war and repeated his statement that he can end the war within 24 hours of becoming president.

“I want the war to stop, would negotiate a deal with Moscow to save lives.”

Harris resolutely supported continued U.S. aid to Ukraine and emphasized that it is in US interest to support Ukraine and prevent Russian expansion further into Europe.

Trump’s difficulty in accepting 2020 Election Defeat

Kamala Harris got under the skin of Donald Trump by touching upon his difficulty in accepting his defeat in 2020 presidential election and mocked Trump’s statement that he lost the election by a whisker. Donald Trump tried to back-trap by saying he said this in sarcasm.

“Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people, so let’s be clear about that, and clearly he’s having a very difficult time processing that,”

Trump dismissed the questions during Presidential debate on his earlier comments on Harris’ race.

“I don’t care what she is. You make a big deal out of something; I couldn’t care less. Whatever she wants to be is okay with me,”
